Random facts:

• Ben was a spokesperson for the Canadian MedicAlert Foundation - he is asthmatic and wears a MedicAlert bracelet when off the ice.
• He has an affinity for cars, especially older ones from the 70's, 80's and early 90's.
• He road-tripped from Edmonton to Calgary for the 2000 Canadian Nationals in a car that only had an eight-track cassette player; he had to buy adapters to play CDs on the way.
• He is happily married (congrats!)
• A young Ben appeared in Kurt Browning's TV special, You Must Remember This, in the mid-90's. He was also chosen to fill in for Kurt at the opening ceremonies of the 1996 World Championships in Edmonton (Kurt was prohibited from skating due to his status as a professional skater).
• As a Novice competitor at the 1994 Canadian National Championships in Edmonton, Ben was selected to place the gold medal around the neck of the men's champion -- which just happened to be Elvis Stojko, who had won his first Canadian title. At the 2004 Canadian Nationals in Edmonton, Elvis received induction into the Canadian Figure Skating Hall of Fame, and stepped up to the podium to congratulate Ben on his silver medal, which marked a personal and career best placement for Ben.
