Comments by Erica Leung, founding member of Ferreira Fanatics:
Short Program: "Ben opened with a HUGE triple axel, which was so big that he could only pull off a 2toe at the end of the axel. He landed on the topick of his skate so didn't have speed to but the 3 toe on. Then on to a perfect triple lutz with lots of speed and flow coming off the landing. His combination spin (camel, sit, crossfoot) was great. Ben ended with a wonderful 2axel and finished a clean program. In the kiss and cry we could hear Ben remark, " I didn't fall" kind of jokingly. His technical marks ranged from 5.1-5.5 and 5.2-5.6 for presentation. The ordinals were all over the place from a 3rd place to a 7th. This judging panel had no clue what was going on. The judges here were mostly first time judges so that is why the marks were strange. Ben was the top canadian but still should have been much higher."
Long Program: "For Ben, the quad is the jump that gives him troubles and again only tripled it here. He bounced back with a great 3a/3toe and then to a 3 lutz and 3flip. It was a strong start but then Ben started to turn out of the rest of his landings. There were no falls, but all these little flip outs cost him and he moved from 7th in the short to 9th in the long. Ben Landed 5 triples cleanly, but with no 3/3 combo or a quad, Emanual Sandhu managed to squeak by him in the standings. Marks were from 4.7-5.3 for technical and for Presentation- 4.9( way too low) to 5.3. He looked a bit tired in the K & C and still needs to put together 2 clean programs back to back. I really adore this long program because Ben plays this character so well. I think if he continues to develop some more character themed programs, Ben will find that even more success will await him."
